Chip Bryce '81

  • Chip Bryce ’81 has served as executive director for Cornell’s Office of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning since 1997. Previously, he was a planned giving officer and director of the university’s Program in Real Estate. Chip supported the longstanding Cornell Real Estate Council, spearheading the $4 million endowment campaign to successfully launch Cornell’s master's degree program in real estate and handling gifts of real estate to the university. He now oversees more than $100 million in gift transactions each year.

    Prior to his work for Cornell, Chip held various positions related to real estate development and finance in the hospitality industry, the vast majority with the parent companies controlling the Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, and Harrah’s Casino brands. Chip is a native Ithacan and returned home for family and to pursue his hobbies of sailing, hockey, skiing, hiking, and life in a university-town environment.

Ian Garrett

  • Ian Garrett is the current director of gift planning and has been at Cornell for over 20 years, both in the Office of Gift Planning and University Major Gifts. Prior to Cornell, he was a senior consultant at the Winslow Group, based in Winston-Salem, NC. He holds a bachelor's degree from Binghamton University and a master’s degree in public affairs, specializing in nonprofit management from Indiana University. Ian is originally from Corning, N.Y., and has three children along with his wife Melissa, a teacher in the Trumansburg schools. They reside in Ithaca, NY.

Justine Guariglia

  • Justine Guariglia joined the staff in July 2010 and was promoted in 2013 to senior gift planning officer. Previously she worked in the financial services industry at Credit Suisse and Bernstein (now Bernstein Global Wealth Management) in New York City and assisted individuals, families, and private foundations in developing comprehensive investment plans. She received a bachelor’s degree in economics with a concentration in finance from the University of New Hampshire in 2002. Justine and her family enjoy the beautiful surroundings and peaceful lifestyle of the Finger Lakes.

Amy Jacobson

  • Amy Jacobson

    Amy Jacobson joined Cornell’s Gift Planning team in October 2021 after serving as Senior Director of Advancement and Director of Gift Planning at Alfred University for over a decade. She received a BA in political science from Wellesley College and a JD from New York University. A member of New York, Pennsylvania, and federal bars, she practiced law in both Philadelphia, PA and Olean, NY. Her areas of practice included civil legal services, immigration, and civil rights. Amy was the first Director of Alfred University’s Women’s Leadership Center and has served on community boards including The Alfred Montessori School Board, and the Allegany County Youth Board. Amy and her husband Dr. Allen Grove (an English professor at Alfred University) have two college-age children. In their free time, they enjoy exploring Ithaca’s trails, waterways, and restaurants.

Rachel Rohwer '14

  • Rachel Rohwer '14 was promoted to Gift Planning Officer in August 2021 after joining the team as Gift Planning Associate in May 2019. She is responsible for building new relationships and deepening stewardship practices. Prior to Gift Planning, Rachel spent three years as Data Manager for the Roper Center at Cornell, and also worked in Admissions at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Johnson Executive MBA Program. Outside of work, you will find her exploring nature with her family, or honing her skills as a museum taxidermist. She holds a BS with Distinction in Research from Cornell University and an International MSC in Social Policy Analysis.

Carrie Corbin

  • Carrie Corbin is a trust officer who is responsible for the day-to-day administration of planned gifts as well as the Cornell University Foundation, a donor-advised fund. She has held successive positions in the Office of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning since joining Cornell’s investment office in 1981. She has made Ithaca her home since birth, as have her husband Gary and her daughter Samantha.

Julie Newhouse

  • Julie Newhouse joined the office in 2009 as trust administrator and oversees the university’s interests in estates, life insurance policies, outside trusts, and gifts of real estate with retained life use. Previously she served in a variety of roles in Cornell Alumni Affairs and Development. Before joining Cornell in 2000, she held positions in human resources and training and also worked as a librarian in a small public library. Julie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University. With two grown children, she and her husband, Brad, enjoy all that the Finger Lakes Region offers in the way of recreation and entertainment.
