Cornell has a long history of graduate study, going all the way back to our founding in 1865. Graduate School students in more than 80 fields are expanding the limits of human knowledge every day, working at the forefront of research and discovery in an intellectually stimulating, warm, and vibrant community.

Today, federal cuts are putting graduate education at risk. Graduate students do the hands-on research that drives prosperity and gives our country a global advantage. Funding for that work primarily comes from contracts with federal agencies. Diminished federal financing for research means Cornell can support fewer graduate students—a nationwide trend that will damage the country’s ability to stay ahead in technological, scientific, and economic progress in the years to come.

Your gift to the Graduate School Annual Fund helps us continue to feed the pipeline of research talent to prevent a stall-out. We provide students conducting critical research with fellowship support and programming that goes beyond standard lab or classroom experiences to help them focus on world-changing knowledge and succeed once they graduate.

Future priorities for the Graduate School Annual Fund include:

How the Graduate School would use future gifts at the following levels:

    • $500–$700 helps offset the travel costs of presenting a paper or poster at a conference.
    • $1,800allows 10 students to participate in the Future Professors Institute.
    • $25,000makes it more affordable for 10 students to travel for critical thesis or dissertation research.
    •  Gifts of any amount contribute to the fellowships that enable students to focus their time and energy on their research.
